5 Dishes You Need To Try In South Carolina

“You just can’t eat good food; you have to talk about it “

South Carolina is a historical jewel with sandy beaches and lush green golf courses, making it the most popular tourist destination in the United States. It’s a fantastic city to visit to learn about its rich history, culture, and several intriguing tourist attractions.

A trip to Myrtle Beach is a must for thrilling water sports, outstanding cultural events, busy nightlife, and other entertaining activities. South Carolina has over 2000 plantations, some dating back to the 1700s, that provide group tours to familiarize you with the intriguing lifestyle of the families who owned these plantations and the enslaved planters who worked for them.

You can take a carriage ride or a walking tour through the historic district of Charleston, which will transport you to the pre-colonial era and introduce you to 1400 heritage mansions, allowing you to enjoy the old-world charm.

The city has so much to offer to your tastebuds while offering sumptuous and mouth-watering cuisines in the theme-based restaurants and cafes paired with extensive flavors of street food. So let us take you on the spectacular food journey of this mystical city.

“The one thing I like better than talking about food is eating ”

John Walters

Barbeque

The dinner on a Charleston cruise offers a one of its kind dining experience that can be customized according to your palette.

To satisfy the foodie in you, try a South Carolina barbecue made of delicious pork flesh slowly cooked on hardwood to give it a smokey flavor, served with their distinctive sauce made of cider vinegar, yellow mustard, local spices, organic honey, and brown sugar.

Oyster Roast

True to its name, it’s a food event where fresh oysters are roasted in the pot covered with a woven cloth called burlap and then placed over hot coal till the meat gets tender. Then, they are served with crispy crackers and cocktail sauce for a wholesome flavor.

Chicken Bog

Chicken bog is a local chicken, sausage, and rice dish that comes straight from a traditional South Carolina kitchen to your dinner table. Despite the fact that many seasoned chefs have experimented with many variants of the renowned recipe, the original remains popular among foodies.

This meal has been so famous that it has its own festival, namely Bog-off, since 1979, where diners can sample it.

Frogmore Stew

Don’t get misled by its name; this delicacy is not made of frog, and neither it’s a stew. On the contrary, the ingredients include corn and fresh shrimp boiled with potatoes, crabs, and other ingredients that suit one taste.

Collard Greens

Collard green, the national vegetable of South Carolina, is the main ingredient used in this traditional recipe cooked in water. It can be sauteed, fried, and steamed with pork, ham, bacon, smoked turkey, and best served with cornbread.

The dish is a staple among the household and owes its existence to the grandma’s kitchen.
