Most adults will get sick 2 to 4 times a year, on average. That’s a lot of runny noses, fevers, and lingering coughs. But how many of those are actually attributable to the common cold — or is it much worse?
Finding a primary care provider is essential in staying in good health and catching something wrong that you wouldn’t otherwise. These are the 5 main reasons to see the same physician.
1. You’ll Be Healthier
Seeing your doctor regularly is a ticket to lifelong health. They’re trained professionals and know exactly what to look for when you’re sick. They’ll notice something well before it’s ever evident to you, and they’ll also be able to tell you that you’re worrying about nothing.
Most importantly, they’ll have continual checks of your health. They can monitor your weight gain or loss, blood pressure, and other inconsistencies in your analytical data. These are often the first signs of something wrong with you.
2. Save Time
A lot of the medical world is jumping through bureaucratic hoops to get the right care. But a PCP can cut right through that red-tape.
Most general physicians have a general knowledge of everything concerning health. They’re not specialized doctors, but they’ll know how to generally treat you. So, you’ll have all of your health issues addressed in one visit, rather than multiple.
If you can’t make time to make an appointment, try to treat yourself to the best of your ability. Buying supplements online and doing daily exercise is just as important as seeing your PCP team.
3. A Primary Care Provider Can Save You Money
General physicians are the most likely person to find a medical concern. And they’ll usually find it early enough that’s easily treatable.
This can save you countless dollars in the future. And it can potentially save your life if something particularly nasty is caught.
4. They’re Someone Who Knows You
Primary care providers are almost family after you’ve gone to them for so many years. They know your quirks, your needs, and everything in between.
This level of care and forethought isn’t available elsewhere. In most cases, you’re just another patient in a gown. But with your general practitioner, you’re treated with uniqueness.
5. Accurate Referrals if Need Be
A lot of people worry about their health. Hypochondria can be damaging psychologically and financially. Those that suffer from this type of anxiety proceed with medical tests that are often not necessary.
You should always get a referral for something specialized. Your PCP will be able to tell you if that referral is even necessary. Or if you’re just wasting your money.
Be the Healthiest You Can Be
The average adult can get sick pretty often. But, what’s worse, is that everyone is in danger of lurking illness and disease. Going to your primary care provider regularly can mitigate a lot of this danger.
You’ll be a healthier person if you see your general practitioner. It can also save you money, time, and health-anxiety down-the-line.
