Creating a Japandi Style Kitchen Space

Should you be unfamiliar with the phrase ‘Japandi’, imagine a mixture of Japanese and Scandinavian styles. This calming fusion is becoming increasingly popular in kitchen spaces, thanks to its elegant yet functional aesthetic.

If you’re looking for a space that is minimalist, yet still warm and comforting, then Japandi might just be perfect for you.

In fact, Japandi is a style that is standing the test of time and is most definitely here to stay. With lots of calming colours, textures and natural materials, we have revealed some of our top tips as to how you can achieve the perfect Japandi kitchen space.

Keep it Natural

One of the most charming aspects of the Japandi style is the serene environment it creates. This is typically achieved by using a neutral colour pallet all around, including both your walls and your floors.

Using neutral hues including white, brown, grey, beige, taupe, olive green and other such shades, you’ll be able to create a space of calm and relaxation.

It’s also important to remember when creating a Japandi space, that the overall aesthetic is very much driven by nature. Therefore, don’t be afraid to incorporate natural materials into your kitchen space to create a warm and textured look.

Functional Minimalism

It’s a fact; simplicity is calming. The last thing you want when you’re trying to create a peaceful space is too much clutter and therefore, stress. However, be aware of not going too far in the other direction, by creating a space that is so minimalist that it isn’t functional!

A handleless kitchen design can be a great place to start when it comes to functional minimalism. The clean lines and sleek finish that a handleless kitchen design provides can be perfect for creating an atmosphere that is calm and harmonious.

Remember, at the heart of Japandi style is people and functionality, so don’t be afraid to create a couple of key zones in your space for socialising, or even just having a cosy space to sit and relax in.

You want to make sure that your space is functional, yet finished with a touch of style that all will be able to enjoy.

Maintain Order, Minimise Stress

Japandi style revolves around the notion of “less is more”, so investing in some clever storage can be a great step towards maintaining a calm space.

In fact, many often view both integrated and open storage as key ingredients in Japandi design. Only a quick visit to the Japandi hashtag on Instagram will provide you with tonnes of inspiration that includes integrated and open storage solutions, whilst also looking brilliant at the same time.

Often, when it comes to striking the perfect balance between making the most of your space and creating the perfect aesthetic, an expert in kitchen design will be able to give you all of the advice you need. Yet, to get you started, make sure to think of pull-out larders, magic corners, extra deep pan drawers and integrated bins for added ingenuity.

Don’t Be Afraid to Invest in your Worktops

Quality craftsmanship that lasts for years to come is another important part of Japandi design, which is why many invest well in their worktops.

Remember, your worktops are an incredibly high traffic zone of your kitchen and making sure that they stand the test of time will be worth it in the long run.

Accessorise

If you’re looking to strike the perfect balance when it comes to “bringing the outside in”, this is where accessorising can be most useful. Why not add a few green plants, concrete style plates, or similarly, Japanese artwork that perfectly captures the beautiful Japanese landscape.

You can also add simple touches of cosy warmth that make a big impact with linens, woollen cushions and seagrass.

If you’re one for a little luxe, try adding some touches of metallics and brass around your space, they’ll look great and fit in brilliantly with the overall Japandi look.

We hope that the above tips have given you some insight and guidance into creating your perfect Japandi kitchen space. Take this all as inspiration. Don’t be afraid to add your own touch to the aesthetic, and do your own research to create a space that is just as much you and is Japandi style.

Spread the love
