Designing A Healthy Mind: How Interior Design, The Colors, And Lighting Within Your Home Affect Your Mental Health

You may be wondering what is causing your anxiety, bad moods, feeling sensitive and unmotivated about life, you may have tried yoga, Tai Chi, detoxification routines, or even barefoot walks, but you are still gloomy.

Just take a minute to look around your house. Did you know that the interior design, the colors, and lighting within your home can affect your mental health both positively or negatively?

If you did not know, then you should know that humans react intuitively to their surrounding environment to promote intimacy, productivity, and efficiency. Take a look at the spacing in your house, the height of the ceiling, do the windows have daylight? Where do you spend most of your time while at home? 

Here are ways in which the design of your home can impact your mental health and how to fix it.

Dark Rooms Can Affect Your Mood

Sunshine opens up the mood and makes people happy, even without realizing it. So when you have dark curtains and blinders that do not allow a lot of light through, the mood in the house might be dull. 

If you stay in a dark room, knowingly or unknowingly, you will end up in a bad mood; we need light to rejuvenate the house and bring a happy atmosphere in the house.

If you have furniture sitting on the window blocking the light, you should remove the furniture to allow light in. Open the curtains in the morning so that light will get to the house and lighten everything.

Brighter colors might also bring some light into the house. Try pink, yellow, red, green, and blue; they will definitely light up the mood in your home. Dark colors might steal the light away, and bring gloominess in the house.

Have you ever looked for an item in your own house for months just because of the disorganization of the house? Do you keep misplacing tools in your home? It’s probably because the house has not been arranged well, which is a factor that causes stress and unrest.

When furniture and items have no space within your house, they will cause you to stress, even as you walk around the house, you keep on knocking things down, it is time to make a good arrangement within your home. Make space for everything, dispose of the furniture that is not necessary. Space within the house allows the circulation of air and rejuvenates the mind.
