Holiday Etiquette for Gift Giving

Giving gifts is a holiday tradition that brings people closer together. Get your holiday etiquette in order with some helpful gift-giving tips.

Make A List

Your gift-giving journey begins with a list of people you will be shopping for. Depending on how close each person is to you, write down how much you’re willing to spend.

Start with family and close friends. You’ll probably want to spend more money per person in this category. Continue your planning with coworkers and acquaintances until you complete your list.

Just as with anything else you plan for, a list will help you stay on track. It’s easy to overextend yourself during the holiday season in an attempt to please everyone.

Keep Your Budget in Mind

This is where you’ll have to put in place all necessary checks and balances to keep you within your budget. It may mean having to go back to your list and rework some of the numbers. By starting with a concrete budget, you will be able to avoid splurging beyond your means. The rest of the tips listed will help you arrive at choices that will keep your outlay within a predetermined amount.

Get Something the Recipient Will Appreciate

What sorts of gifts will the recipients appreciate most? Most often, getting a less expensive gift that fits someone’s likes is better than randomly selecting a pricier option. That’s why spending a little time doing some reconnaissance work can go a long way.

A little thought should be enough to arrive at each person’s hobbies and interests. You probably hear them talk about their likes all the time.

If not, social media provides a helpful tool for doing your research. People love posting about their interests and a quick look at their social media accounts will be enough.

Facebook and Instagram are probably the best two platforms to use for this purpose. Pinterest users also enjoy sharing images of their favorite hobbies, so you can include the photo-sharing site.

Online Money Transfer

Sometimes, sending a little money can be a great gift. This holds for students or people going through hard times. Sending some funds via online money transfer will be especially appreciated by college students. It’s also a great way of offering a holiday gift to family or loved ones abroad. The fact that you don’t have to go through the hassle of conventional money transfer methods takes away the stress.

Most people can use a little extra cash and the ability to send it to them directly is convenient. There’s always a feeling of uncertainty when sealing an envelope with a few bills of currency in it. Will it arrive on time or even at all? With online money transfers, there’s no more waiting for a greeting card to arrive via the conventional post with your cash gift inside.

It’s About the Holiday Spirit

Planning for your holiday gift-giving will take the stress out of the tradition. Spend some time to find out what your friends and family really like. Keep your focus on the holiday spirit and you’ll be sure to put a smile on people’s faces with your gifts.

Spread the love
