The Food Trucks Phenomenon

There was a time when simple, modest meals, were sold on the streets for cheap money. At that time, it was the food of the poor. In Ancient Rome, for example, commoners who did not have stoves in their homes could only afford a cup of chickpeas and porridge from street carts.

Nowadays, millions of people buy street food every day. These people are far from poor. The rhythm of life in modern cities dictates the rules, and that means that time is money. Sometimes people are so in a hurry that they do not have time to eat at home. This is where street vendors providing a wide variety of meals enter the picture – it is cheap, fast, filling, and delicious.

Moreover, street food is not just a mainstream food system. It is a cultural phenomenon. The type of street food characterizes every region in the world. It reflects the region’s cultural, economic, and social position. That is the reason behind the trend of “street lovers” among food travelers. They go from one place to another, not for sightseeing but to try the delicious meals that food trucks have to offer.

A Brief History Of The Food Truck

The whole street food concept dates back to the late 17th century when people didn’t possess enough resources to cook on their own. Vendors selling meals from small carts became a widespread practice back then. They continued to spread worldwide to finally get to the point where they became extremely popular, especially in urban areas.

In the 19th century, food trucks went through a substantial change with the emergence of the “Chuck Wagon.” Invented by a rancher named Charles Goodnight, it was used for cattle drives. Since the cattle drives lasted long weeks, the cowboys who were driving their herds were preparing their own meals.

However, Charles Goodnight considered this as a problem and came up with a solution. He purchased a wagon and hired a cook who provided the cowboys with good meals during their journey. The food they carried was simple but filling and consisted of items like potatoes, flour, beans, coffee, and different meats.

A lot of people grew up with the ice cream truck song, and probably one of the childhood memories is chasing the ice cream truck. However, not everyone knows about its origins. It is believed that the ice cream truck was invented in 1920 by Harry Burt from Youngstown. He was the creator of ice cream on a stick which he named the “Good Humor” bar.

To sell his invention, he hired people in white uniforms to drive the ice cream trucks and ring a bell to get people’s attention. His ice cream bars soon became a total hit.

Between the 1930s and 1950s, housewives could order milk and baked goods from food trucks. Bakery vans were sent door to door, offering their products at people’s doorsteps. These days, food trucks are found everywhere serving delicious food to passers. Click here https://www.titlemax.com/history-of-food-trucks/ to learn more about this.

Going further in history, in 1936, a man called Carl G. Mayer designed a food truck better known as the “Wienermobile.” They sell on the streets from a sausage-shaped motor vehicle. The Wienermobile drivers are called Hotdoggers, and the toy whistles they give to people are called Wiener whistles.

Back in the early days, the Wienermobiles brought food to schools, stores, orphanages, and children’s hospitals. Later, they began selling their meals in parades and festivals.

The Advantages Of Food Trucks

Street food refers to pre-cooked meals and drinks that street vendors sell in crowded places like squares and markets. They offer a variety of snacks and so-called fast food that is cooked quickly or heated in front of customers. Corndogs, burgers, pancakes, waffles, coffee are some of the most common examples. These foods and drinks are sold in special disposable equipment, which makes it perfect for having a snack on-the-go, plus the prices are much more reasonable than those in a budget-friendly restaurant.

The popularity of public vendors is constantly rising, especially in the last year. Ever since Covid-19 appeared, the way we eat has changed drastically. With outdoor dining being forbidden in some countries because of infection risk, the public demand is accommodated with food trucks.

These places offer a unique dining experience and a variety of delicious quality foods that will take you around the world with just a bite. Through street vendors, you will get a chance to taste some of the most famous dishes from different countries.

Not everything sold in food trucks is necessarily unhealthy. With the rise in demand for fresh and healthy meals, the chefs working in these places are beginning to purchase proteins, dairy, fruits, and vegetables of organic origin, instead of products processed in factories.

Another advantage of public vendors is that you can have a quick bite at any time of the day. No matter if you are rushing to work, school, or enjoying nature, they are always there and ready to serve you. Nothing beats getting a meal outside when the weather is pleasant and perfect for a stroll.

What’s Necessary For A Food Truck To Be Successful?

For this type of business to succeed, it is essential to get a better understanding of what exactly is missing in a particular area that will attract customers.

The level of competition should also be taken into consideration. The absence of competition in an area does not always guarantee a successful business. The reason for the competition being absent is perhaps the lack of consumer demand.

Street vendors can be seasonal or cyclical. If someone plans on making a profit throughout the whole year, there is no point in opening something that is unlikely to be profitable during specific months, such as an ice cream vendor. There are different Reward mobile food truck trailers for sale which offer meal trucks depending on your needs. High-quality equipment and skillful staff able to accommodate the diverse trends are fundamental to the success of a food truck business.
